A glamorous high-heeled foot steps directly into a candlelit cake beneath a star-filled sky. The image is colourful and seductive at first glance, yet beneath its sweetness lies a question: what happens when growing older is treated as something that must be prevented rather than experienced?
The artwork was inspired by the increasing pressure placed on women to preserve youth, correct every visible sign of ageing and continuously reinvent themselves through beauty rituals, treatments and impossible expectations.
The title captures the paradox at the heart of the piece: while making a birthday wish, the wish is no longer simply for happiness or another beautiful year—it is to remain young.
Bold, humorous and slightly provocative, this artwork turns the fantasy of eternal youth into a surreal visual celebration.

Make a Wish, Stay Young reflects on contemporary beauty culture and the way ageing—especially female ageing—is increasingly presented as a problem to solve.
The high heel represents glamour, femininity and social expectation. The birthday cake represents passing time. By combining them in one impossible scene, the artwork asks whether our desire to stay young has become its own strange form of celebration.
The work is not against beauty, self-expression or personal transformation. Instead, it playfully questions the moment when caring for ourselves becomes a demand to erase every sign that we have lived.
